Fast changing economic and business conditions require steel companies to continuously upgrade their slab casters with minimum investment costs and shortest outage times to minimize production losses. VAI has developed unique tailor made revamping concepts and technological packages to satisfy the market requirements on increased productivity, improved product quality at lowest production and maintenance costs. The advantages of advanced upgrading concepts like the VAI/ SOLLAC curved to straight mold conversion and a concept to revamp the lower end of the strand guide for increased productivity including features like the SMART~(~R) segment with its ASTC (Automatic Strand Taper/Thickness Control) features are discussed. The benefits of newly developed technological packages like the DIAFACE narrow face design, the HYDROWAM, a unique hydraulic automatic mold width adjustment and the MOLD EXPERT, an online mold monitoring tool providing highest caster availability and improved product qgality are presented. Depending on the specific requirements VAI are in a position to recommend the most efficient tailor made and economical revamping solutions to the steel industry.
