Space related education is not a discipline in itself, like physics or computer science. Space activities in fact have two basic characteristics: 1. They draw on complex systems which in turn are based on very varied techniques and technology which is continually evolving. 2. With each day that passes they become more important for many human activities (applications) and certain fields of scientific research (science of the universe). The space curriculum is thus offered as an option in the final years of higher education as well for postgraduate degrees. Furthermore, it has to be approached in a new way that widens and reinforces cooperation between universities, research laboratories, industry and users while not forgetting the space agencies. At ISSAT examples of different kinds of partnership will be discussed to illustrate the many different working relationships possible. Depending on the case these will involve: 3. one to one projects between a manufacturer and a grande ecole, 4. projects involving research laboratories and universities or grandes ecoles, 5. projects between various partners for a given field of application or for creating a new space curriculum. 6. a major international project involving universities, manufacturers and local community organisations in several countries for the purpose of creating a summer school specifically for this purpose. Finally ISSAT strongly believes in international co-operation as may be seen from its ties with the ISU and the University of Delft as well as being asked to lead the Outreach Programme of the 52nd Astronautical Congress.
