Results of three years' observation on groundwater flow from an abandoned mine adit (gallery) in a fractured metamorphic formation in the Sudety Mts. are reported in this paper. The flow characteristic is discussed together with the results of infiltration measurements and those of water level fluctuation and of total flow in a mountainous river. Hydraulic description of weathering cover and of fracture system is given. Low-rate vertical flow in the clay-rich weathering zone is associated with relatively fast flow in the hard rock fracture system. The ground water residence time in both contrasting layers are discussed.
