The electric and thermal profiles of SOEC were determined by this novel approach that takes into account the evolution of gas and properties throughout the cell. Based on these profiles and an iterative routine, the electric potential that would be imposed to the cells at a fixed current density was calculated. Results show that an increase up to 26% on the electric potential needed is noted between what is presented in the literature and what is calculated in this work from the evolution of the operating conditions throughout the cell. These higher electric values would be translated to an extra energy consumption that may have to be considered in techno-economics studies dealing with HTE process.
