Heparin has traditionally been believed to be ineffective when administered orally. However, we recently demonstrated that low molecular weight heparin-deoxycholic acid conjugate (LMWH-DOCA) can be absorbed in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. In this study, we used bile acid to enhance the absorption of LMWH-DOCA in mouse and monkey.
