Preparation of mefenemic acid (MA) - alkanolamine complex was attempted to increase the transdermal flux of MA. IR and DSC study demonstrated that the crystal of MA and amine mixture was ion-pair complex. The series of amine complex showed lower melting point, higher solubility in water and ethanol and higher transdermal flux more than MA. The flux of complex from ethanol-isopropyl myristate (EI) system through hairless rat skin might be explained by cotransport of ethanol.
