Parameters of glassy structure of PVC/alkyltin thioglycolates and PVC/dialkyltinthioglycolates compositions were evaluated using the enthalpy of dilution ofcompositions in the probe solvent – cyclohexanone at 298 K. Therefore experimental datawere treated using semi-empirical thermodynamic model for the solution of glassypolymer the fraction of metastable voids and the cohesion energy of composition weredetermined. It was shown that with the increase in the content of organotin stabilizers thefraction of void decreases as they are occupied by additive molecules. At the same timethe cohesion energy of composition increases which leads to enhancement of the glassystructure of the PVC/stabilizer composition. A molecular mechanism for the organotininfluence on the glassy structure of PVC composition is proposed. Molecules of alkyltinalkyl thioglycolates form multi-site complexes with PVC chains, which act likeadditional clips in the entanglement network of the PVC amorphous structure.Thermodynamic analysis of the structural changes is confirmed by atomic forcemicroscopy studies on the surface of cast films of PVC compositions.
