The effect of soil crush by tillage must be monitored in order to ensure the soundgrowth of the crop and stabilized crop yield, because physical soil environment should be keptto the optimum condition.The goal of this study is development of a technology, which obtains soil clod fineness duringrotary tillage. We have developed a surface irregularity measuring system, which is based onnon-contact and non-destructive measurement by using a laser displacement sensor. In ourprevious study, the estimation of soil clod fineness by using irregularity data has becomepossible, because a relationship between the soil surface irregularity data that obtained by theirregularity measuring system and soil clod fineness by sieve method has been clarified.To improve the efficiency of data collection, we adopted a polygon mirror structure and installedit on the measurement system.A measurement experiment was carried out by using two systems (the stationary surfaceirregularity measurement system, and the on-board measurement system). As a result, soil clodfineness calculated from the surface irregularity data measured by two systems iscorrespondent to the fineness of the tilled clod.
