This work presents a model of economic assessment for irrigated lands in order toestablish the possible compensatory allowances to the farmer for the total or partialwithdrawal of the water use rights in over-exploited aquifers. This is one of the possiblesolutions considered in the Spanish Hydrologic National Plan (HNP, 2000) to solve theenvironmental problems caused in a surface of 16000 km2 named Upper Guadiana. Themodel analyzes the gross margins of farms with rotation of crops considered to be betteradapted to the region conditions, according the level of available water. The monetaryevaluation of the m3 of water when the water endowment of the farms is reduced from 4500m3/ha to much lower values (for example 1500 m3/ha) has been performed capitalizing to the3% the loss of gross margin originated in 6 representative farms of the area.
