The heavy oil reservoirs of Liaohe Oilfield is characterized by deep buried depth, complicated reservoir structure and wide ranges of viscosity. In view of the reservoir geological features and mid- late stage steam stimulation conditions, steam flooding pilot test has been carried out in Block Qi 40 in Liaohe Oilfield, which is the mid-deep common heavy oil reservoir. Through the pilot test, satisfactory effects has been obtained with a series of moderate-deep heavy oil reservoir development technology developed, which paved solid foundation for conversion to steam flooding in large scale in analogous blocks. In the paper, based on the steam flooding pilot effect, reservoir evaluation and management methods are systematically introduced, and the recognition on the steam flooding of moderate- deep heavy oil reservoir is summarized.
