In 2006, Nexant Inc., an international consulting firm completed the development of a graphically enhanced web-based decision-support model known as CNGMAX ?. The model was designed to help the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), the Government entity responsible for the development of the natural gas industry in Egypt, and other stakeholders in the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) industry make informed decisions that impact the development of the CNG market. CNG-MAX? is an interactive planning tool that allows the user to monitor market trends, predict impacts of relevant policies and marketing initiatives, and optimize the expansion of the refueling network. The model was designed to serve both regulating agencies and private investors, and is currently placed on the worldwide web with controlled access. The current version of CNG-MAX? includes a set of information database modules and a group of digital geographic maps as well as satellite images for four main cities in Egypt representing four distinct geographic regions. This paper provides a description of the model with its capabilities and applications for those involved in developing similar markets.
