Pumped storage power station can take on the tasks of reducing peak and filling valley, emergency reserve, frequency modulation, phase modulation, etc. in power system. It is of significance for improving the stability and flexibility of electric system and amending supply quality and raising network safety and economics. It is an economic and effective regulating way to the power system. So the building of pumped storage power station can improve greatly running of the electric power system, and acquire a better system performance. The comprehensive benefit of pumped storage power station will influence directly the economic rationality and the development scale of it. Combining with economic benefit and social benefit of pumped storage power station, this paper makes a evaluation of comprehensive benefit of it by using the principal component analysis, and points out that the pumped storage power stations lack of the enough price distance between the peak and valley and should pay more attention to the dynamic effects at the present stage.
