This paper proposed a novel computational model for solving 3D eddy current field problems in electromagnetic stirring of the continuous casting of slab. The method combines the axisymmetric finite element method and the analytical solution, in which the complicated 3D eddy current field around the slab is divided into three parts, namely the incident field, the scatter field and the refraction field. The hybrid FEM-analytical method can reduce the amount of computation of the 3D eddy-current field dramatically. Comparison of the calculated results by the proposed method and 3D FEM showed that the accuracy of the method is acceptable.
