Chapter 7 Copolymers Based on Dimethylsiloxane and Diphenylsiloxane Units

A number of novel copoly(dimethylsiloxanes/ diphenylsiloxanes)s have been prepared and characterized. These copolymers have oligodiphenylsiloxane blocks located either alternatively in the polysiloxane main chain or at the chain ends of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Alternatively, alkylheptaphenylcyclotetrasiloxanes were distributed either randomly as grafts along the PDMS backbone or at the chain ends of PDMS of different molecular weights. These copolymers were characterized by 1H, 13C and 29Si NMR, IR, and UV spectroscopy. Molecular weights were determined by GPC as well as by NMR end group analysis. Thermal transition temperatures and stabilities of copolymers were analyzed by DSC and TGA, respectively.
