Thanks to thixotropy, the property of many materials tohave a reversible transformation gel-sol, it is possible touse hydrogels in many application in tissue engineering.An hydrogel can be used as a cell or drug scaffold, asubstitute of nucleus pulposus of intervertebral disk or amimic material of cartilage ECM. The only negativeaspect is the low mechanical properties of thesematerials, but considering the thixotropic property ofthem, it is possible to create interpenetrating hydrogels(IPH) with high mechanical properties that can bemodulated on the basis of the application.
