To get higher efficiency, a quasi-parallel two-stage power architecture, named sigma architecture, was proposed for VR applications. In this paper, the design procedure and the scalability of the sigma VR are firstly introduced. Then, the comparison between two designs, which are sigma VRs with LLC DCX and with ZVS-QR DCX, are compared and experimentally verified. Finally, some design issues, such as light load efficiency and startup, are also discussed and solutions are presented in this paper.
