Enterprises are now entering an era of transforming. This study aims at exploring the relationship between enterprise transformational patterns and capability structures. After reviewing the related literatures on transformation and capability, combined with the practices of manufacturing SMEs in Zhejiang Province, we propose a conceptual match model of transformational patterns and capability elements as well as perform an empirical study. The survey data from 237 Zhejiang manufacturing SMEs indicate that specific transformational capability structures, composed of some combinations of capability elements, must match unique transformation patterns in order to improve the performance of enterprises during the transformation period.
