摘要

The imperfection-sensitive behavior of thin wall structures under load is still imperfectly understood,in spite of much research over the past 30 years.The Shanley model is extensively used to solve the problems of elastic-plastic load carrying capacity of compressed columns without imperfection.In this paper,the initial geometric imperfection was introduced to the Shanley model,the formula of the load carrying capacity of columns under compression with initial geometric imperfection was derived from improving the Shanley model.The modified Shanley model and a non-linear finite element model were both used to determine the geometric imperfection sensitivity of load carrying capacity of an H-section column.Compared the above two results with the one calculated by Koiter's formula,it shows that the formula derived from modified Shanley model could be used to calculate the geometric imperfection sensitivity of load carrying capacity of thin wall structure columns under compression exactly and reliably.
