Recent examples and a lack of research with regard to airport cooperation show the need to deepen the knowledge in this domain. This paper addresses the (dis)advantages of cooperation in the airport sector and in which cases cooperation it can be beneficial. First, cooperation and competition between airports is analyzed. Reasons for cooperation can be financial intertwinement, sharing of knowledge/best practices and possible capacity division. Second, cooperation and competition with other actors is treated. Airports for example develop cooperation initiatives with airlines, other transport modes and other actors. This research forms a framework to help airports and policy makers identify the (dis)advantages of cooperation.
