摘要

Construction, a major industry throughout the world, accounts for a sizeable proportion of most countries’gross domestic product (GDP) and total energy consumption. Greater energy efficiency in buildings is thekey for shifting country development paths toward lower-carbon economic growth. Especially indeveloping countries and transition economies, vast potential for energy savings remain unrealized. Hence,the building market in Asian countries needs to be better understood for improvement. In this study, thesituation of BEE market in Southeast Asian countries is reviewed and the business rationales ofstakeholders to invest in the BEE market have been investigated. A market survey with building designershas been carried out among Mainland China and some Southeast countries and cities, such as Indonesia,Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong. The survey result has been supportedwith a better understanding of the current policy review among these countries in a comparative study. Inaddition, the factors that enhance the popularity of BEE have been explored and the obstacles that hinder itsmarket have been examined in different market situation.
