An algorithm for detecting edges in binary image made by the Laplacian operator is presented in this paper. There are three steps of detecting edges in the algorithm. First, the algorithm proposes some novel masks and uses the masks to seek edges in xdirection. Second, the algorithm seeks edges in ydirection using the same masks. Finally, the algorithm merges the edges which are obtained in the two steps. In a binary image with thick noises, the algorithm is able to avoid the noises and finds more edges; the edges are clear. Contrasting with some classical algorithms, the algorithm in this paper has unique advantage.
