Web services are the computational entities accessible over the Internet. In order to achieve maximum efficiency in service discovery and integrate heterogeneous services effectively, we need better ways to discover needed services. It is suggested that complex network theory may be useful for this purpose. In this paper, we explore the view that Web service can be studied as a network with a number of nodes connected by edges. Then we make statistical analysis and dynamic prediction using ideas in the field of complex networks. We test the proposed method with public data sets. Evidence shows that the derived Web service network can exhibit obvious characteristics of small-world, scale-free and high-cohesion, in accordance with other natural and artificial systems. The results have some practical values including an effective way of Web service discovery and classification.
