Xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase (XTH) is a kind of cell wall relaxation factor and has already been confirmed to be related with cell extension, fruit softening, petal senescence and so on. In the present study, to discuss the structure features of the XTH genes in compositae, the petals of Tagetes Patula, which belongs to the ethylene-insensitive plant, was used as experiment materials. As a result, the cDNA of XTH gene with 906bp was cloned by RT-PCR and molecular cloning (Accession No.IN 164663). Its open reading frame was 882bp and encoded 293 amino acid residues. As performed in the nBLAST analysis, this gene had high homology with XTHs in other plant species, especially with compositae. The cluster analysis showed that the genetic distance between Tagetes Patula and dahlia, Chrysanthemum× morifolium, carnation was close. Thus TpXTH is conjectured to play an important role during the development of Tagetes Patula petals. The results lay the foundation for studying the molecular mechanism of TpXTH gene during development of Tagetes Patula petals.
