LMWH-loaded PEG-PLGA copolymer microparticles for pulmonary delivery were prepared by double emulsion-solvent evaporation technique. The effect of addition of sodium chloride salt (NaCI) in external aqueous phase (EAP) was investigated. The results demonstrated that LMWH was successfully encapsulated in PEG-PLGA microparticles and entrapment efficiency was significantly increased by addition of salt. Addition of higher salt concentration also resulted in decreased mean volume diameter, and tapped density of the microparticles and at the same time, also provided appreciable initial burst release properties.
