By utilizing and comparing different philosophical approaches, this paper addresses the issue whethercommunication between aliens and humans are feasible.Communication with aliens is possible only if at least some things are common. An anthropocentric approachrenders communication with aliens rather unlikely. Aliens' bodies and brains may not be carbon based but saysilicon. Alien brains' stuff may very different from humans. I argue that they need not be for communication.Multiple realizabilty will address this problem. Mental events like emotions and rational thinking are indeed linkedto the brain, but not in a one-to-one relationship with a particular material brain state or base. Different alien brainstuff could well sustain the same logic, mathematics, physics and chemistry. It could sustain a functional economyof internal sets whose mutual relationships parallel and match perfectly with the mutual relationships that define ourhuman mental sets.There are universal in the physical, chemical biological universe. Convergent evolution however shows that similarorganic structures like the eye can evolve independently from each other in unrelated different species. Why notsomething similar elsewhere in the universe? It is considered why some scientist and philosophers are negativelycritical as to alien existence let alone communication.There are universals in science which some philosophes claim are apriori and objective. Here the philosophies ofMichael Ruse and Marvin Minsky. According to him aliens will be quite intelligible. Aliens and we are constrainedby the same ultimate limitations of space, time and matter. Inevitably aliens must develop symbol systems forreferring to objects, causality and goals. The concept of a thing is indispensable for managing resources. This isexamined. The opposing view of Lakoff and Nunez is also examined. They claim truths in science are not apriori,but empirical. Embodied mathematics' concepts are realized by our innate neuronal wiring.
