Nepal is a small country (147,181 sq km) between China and India with a GDP per capitaof US$470 (estimated FY09). Nepal faces large challenges in better educating its citizens.Yet the Nepalese society is deprived of basic space science and astronomy education.Science ministry with the help of esteemed institutions has been initiating new workingplans for the development of space science and astronomy education from governmentlevel and universities are also developing syllabus related to space science and astronomythese days. Tribhuvan University, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) andBP Koirala Planetarium, Observatory and Museum Development Board are the majorgovernment institutions working in cooperation for the development of science andtechnology in Nepal. The developing story of space science and astronomy education statuswill be discussed.Nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations like Nepal astronomical society (NASO) arecarrying out various projects on their own and in collaboration with national andinternational organizations. Nepal astronomical society (NASO), in particular, has alwayscontributed in making plans and policies and implementing them for effective results of theactivities that is carried out amongst students, teachers and general public in the form ofworkshop, talk colloquium, seminars and outreaching events like star parties. Experiences,insights and innovative skills used to promote space science education and astronomy inNepal will be discussed which is believed to play a vital role on promoting space scienceeducation and could be an inspiration to other developing nations as well.
