The generation of antireflective nanostructures by plasma etching is an approved technique for enhancing plastic optics. On curved optical lenses in particular nanostructures can provide better antireflective properties than interference coatings. Therefore, a method that can be used for glass lenses is also desired. 1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-triamine (melamine) has been investigated to produce homogeneous thin films on glass by physical vapor deposition. The etching process can be tailored to achieve antireflective properties on planar and on 45° inclined surfaces at the same time.
