@@ INTRODUCTION Due to its efficient inactivation of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, while producing little mutagenic or toxic byproducts; disinfection by Peracetic acid (PAA) has become an alternative method for wastewater treatment (Kitis, 2004). While more research evidences the widespread presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in wastewater effluents, and the subsequent potential risk of contamination (Baquero et al, 2008); there is little research that describes inactivation of antibioticresistant bacteria by PAA or their regrowth after treatment. The main aim of this study was to determine inactivation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in secondary effluents by PAA disinfection and inspect regrowth of these antibiotic-resistant bacteria after disinfection to simulate regrowth of bacteria in reclaimed water remaining in a tank.
