Seismic safety is of utmost importance for nuclear fuel fabrication facilities of Department of Atomic Energy. Piping systems, in nuclear fuel fabrication system, is used to maintain the negative pressure inside the glove boxes. Failure of piping system in earthquake scenario may result in radioactivity leakage and contamination at working area. Seismic qualification of piping system connecting the glove boxes is very essential for safe and reliable operation of nuclear fuel fabrication facilities. The work described in this paper is focused on ensuring the seismic safety of the piping systems connected with the glove boxes. The glove box exhausts are connected to exhaust header points. In this arrangement, the boxes nearer to the header points are having shorter lengths comparing to those which are farther from the exhaust point. The arrangement indicates the transition between rigid to flexible systems. The behavior of these rigid and flexible systems under seismic loading will be quite different and the difference will vary to the extent of parametrical variations in the systems. Thus, to take care of different configurations of exhaust lines, ideally it requires qualification of a variety of layouts individually. This paper deals with the development of alternative simplified procedure based on parametrical study of the behavior of the systems. With the help of evolved simplified procedure, paper demonstrates that it could be made possible to qualify these systems with the help of few representative layouts thus, restricting the requirement of detailed analysis to a few layouts. The evolved procedure and its utility have been demonstrated with the help of three case studies described in this paper.
