Jcju sand, which contains both siliceous and calcareous materials, is the highly crushable one and has high extreme void ratios due to the grain angularity and intra-particle voids. In this study, a scries of C'PTs and DMTs are carried out on the specimens reconstituted in a calibration chamber to evaluate the properties of crushable Jcju beach sand. It is observed that the particle crushing during the DMT penetration into the Jcju sand results in the smaller horizontal stress index (K_D) and dilatometer modulus (Ed). The R_(D-qc/σ) relation is found to be more dependent on the compressibility of granular particles than the E_(D-qc) relation. It is concluded that the K_D of granular soil is more significantly affected by particle characteristics than E_D and qt..
