Recently the development of land reclamation in the eastern coastal areas of China has made a huge increase. It is estimated that the total area of reclamation will exceed 16 million acres in 2020. While the dredger fill is mostly hydraulic filled with super soft soil, it has high void radio as well as high moisture content. The soil is under-consolidated barely without any structure strength. The improper foundation treatment would lead to large or uneven ground settlement, the failure of ground and some other serious consequences. It brings a great challenge to the foundation treatment and application. A modified multiple-vacuum preloading technique was proposed, which included the foundation treatments such as the floating bridge for construction detour on mud, the vacuum preloading with drainage pipes instead of sand cushion, and the optimized combination of vacuum preloading, surcharge preloading and electroosmosis method. The performance of super soft foundation under such method was tested in Wenzhou of China. The testing and theoretical analysis showed that the modified multiple-vacuum preloading technique overcame the deficiencies of the existing methods, shortened the construction period greatly, and met the design requirements effectively.
