Since 1996,large or small ice flood disasters have been occurring frequently in the Yellow River Xiaobeiganliu reaches,causing serious economic losses.Through an analysis of the characteristics of ice flood disasters occurring on the left bank Shanxi side of Xiaobeiganliu since 1996,it was found that temperature changes in the river channel,the effect of water control projects on the upper reaches,worsening of the channel pattern of Xiaobeiganliu and imperfection of engineering and non-engineering measures for ice flood control are the main causes of ice flood disasters.Ice flood control of Xiaobeiganliu should be carried out in the following aspects: strengthen engineering harnessing in Xiaobeiganliu and accelerate non-engineering measures construction to gradually improve the ice flood control and disaster reduction system; clear away barriers in the river to effectively reduce obstacles to ice discharge; control the discharge of the Wanjiazhai Reservoir in a scientific way and carry out research on the effect of operation of upper and lower reservoirs on the ice run in Xiaobeiganliu to give full play to the role of reservoir regulation in ice flood control; pay close attention to temperature change in the channel and plan in advance ice flood control countermeasures; and improve reservoir system construction in the Baiganliu reaches in accordance with the planning of YRCC to effectively improve the river regime of Xiaobeiganliu,intercept ice from the upper reaches to relieve the ice flood control pressure on Xiaobeiganliu.
