Guxian Reservoir is a vitally important component in the Yellow River Water and Sediment Regulation and control System because it has special geographical advantages for sediment retaining and Water and Sediment Regulation by Yellow River Water and Sediment Regulation and Control System.The combined operation plan of Guxian and Xiaolangdi was put forward according to the operation plan of Xiaolangdi Reservoir.Studies were carried out on the role of Guxian Reservoir in the Yellow River by observed data analysis and mathematical model calculation with the designeded water and sediment condition.Guxian Reservoir which operated with the existing reservoir projects will significantly optimize the water and sediment relationship,reduce the sediment dissipation in the lower yellow river,maintain the medium flood river channel with bankful discharge release capacity of 4,000 m3/s,decrease Tongguan elevation by about2 m,cut down the flood discharge and reduce the flood water level of Sanmenxia Reservoir.And at the same time,it can significantly improve the water supply conditions of the surrounding areas and promote regional economic and social development.Therefore,we should accelerate the construction of Guxian Reservoir to perfect the Yellow River Water and Sediment Regulation and Control System and keep the healthy life of Yellow River.
