Dynamic modeling of two-stage gearbox for condition monitoring

The health condition of gears can affect the dynamic behavior, and the behavior could be transformed into vibration signals. The signal information, thus, can reflect the health condition of the gearbox. In this paper, we present a two-stage gearbox dynamic model, and investigate the dynamic responses with respect to different levels of crack. The health condition indicators are calculated. We investigate the case where there is a crack in one stage, as well as the case where there are cracks in both of the stages. It is found that the root mean square (RMS) indictor generally increases with the increase of the crack length. The results can be potentially used for integrated health condition monitoring and prediction for two-stage gearboxes.
