On November 26, 2011 NASA launched the Mars Science Laboratory's rover, "Curiosity." A part of Curiosity's features is an arm with a 7.5-foot reach that is driven by actuators built from 14 components machined by Andrew Tool & Machining and ground by Professional Instruments Company. The $2.3 billion project's objective is to evaluate the planet's past and present ability to support life. Curiosity is larger, can travel further, and carries ten scientific instruments, more than its predecessors, Spirit and Opportunity.
