In this paper, we investigated the superfinishing performance of bearing steel with vitrified bonded mechanochemical stone composed of CeO_2 abrasives, which can act as oxidizing agents. Superfinishing experiments showed that finishing mechanism of CeO_2 stones changed when superfinishing pressures exceeded boundary. On the basis of this finding, superfinishing performance of CeO_2 stones of three grades, i.e. I, T, and X, were evaluated through the superfinishing of bearing steels. Experiments showed that CeO_2 stone of grade I is superior in surface finish to other two grades because of the mechanical action of the crushed bonds.
