Landsat-7 image can be used to classi fy LAI accurately, but has low over pass frequency (16 days) and covers a small area. MODIS image has a high overpass frequency (1 and 2 days) and covers a large area, however has a low spatial resolution. It is assum ed that by developing a framework, a relationship can be developed between land cover and LAI by using two im ages of different spatial resolutions. This relationship can be used in refining the biophysical models, which would be very important output among the scientific community. By inverting the biophysical model developed the assessm ent of LAI at the level of individual forest types within the MODIS pixel can be done . The objectives are; to im prove accuracy of estimation of the biophysical param eters (LAI) from coarse resolution im agery by applying surface heterogeneity derived from finer satellite imagery;
