摘要

The theme of this year’s ASIS&T conference inspires us toexamine our past, present, and future as a discipline. Thispanel adopts a similar lens but focuses specifically on thedecade that has passed since the events of 9/11 and thesubsequent legislative and policy impacts on information.The aim is to provide information professionals andscholars with an open forum to critically reflect on the post9/11 legislation, policies, and practices and how these haveaffected access to information and informational activitiesmore generally, including the production, management, anddiffusion of public information. With an eye toward thefuture, we examine the extent to which the discourses andpractices of the past decade have contributed to shaping andreshaping our information environment, how theinformation field has responded in the ten years since thisdefining event, and why and how information professionalsought to remain engaged in these matters in the future.
