To ensure the long-term insulation of back sheets of photovoltaic modules under electrical stress partial discharge (PD) tests are performed. The relevantstandard specifications IEC 60270 and IEC 61730 define the current state of the test performed on single samples of the back sheet inserted in a specialelectrode configuration. Up to now it is not well-understood, whether the results can be transferred to the final product of a PV module in all cases. Therefore thegoal of this investigation is the development of a test method to perform PD measurements on a factory built PV module. To investigate the complete PV moduleat once a counter electrode consisting of salt water is used, which is able to adapt perfectly to the unevenness of the back side of the module.
