The recently completed NCHRP Research Project 12-79, “Guidelines for Analytical Methods andErection Engineering of Curved and Skewed Steel Deck-Girder Bridges,” investigated the analysis of curved andskewed steel girder bridges. Over 70 bridges were analyzed in detail using a variety of 1D, 2D, and 3D analysismethods; for each bridge the results of the various analysis methods were compared to benchmark 3D finiteelement analysis results or to available field measurements to evaluate their accuracy. The results were evaluatedto determine appropriate levels of analysis for erection engineering of various types of steel girder bridges. TheNCHRP 12-79 research team provided a succinct and practical summary of these immediately implementablefindings and recommendations, in a format useful to practicing bridge design engineers, in the form of AppendixB of NCHRP Report 725. This paper provides a summary of the NCHRP Report 725 Appendix B recommendations.
