Forest area in any reason is very important to be defended although the specific functions of forest area have not been known yet. The forest loss has been increasing over time, and the solutions to "reimburse" the forest area are needed. An urban forest is the best solution, not only reimburse the forest loss but also the urban forest can connect the people with the forest. Developing the urban forest is very complex because including several subjects such as: landscape architecture, spatial planning, landscape ecology, geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing. The GIS analyses showed that 5.494% (303.466 Ha) of Banyuwangi Sub-District's area could be categorized as high priority locations for urban forest; 45.762% (2,527.465 Ha) could be medium priority locations; and 48.744% (2,692.175 Ha) could be low priority locations. The boom beach was decided as the urban forest site. Mangrove and coastal forest characteristics were applied as a baseline design to build the urban forest.
