With increasing innovation and environmental awareness, electric vehicles (EVs) are getting more popular over conventional fuel based vehicles. Precise state of charge (SoC) estimation is one of the most crucial and challenging problems to boost the large-scale implementation of EVs. In this paper, RC equivalent circuit is chosen for modeling of the Li-ion battery. A novel approach for parameter identification of type 1, second order, and minimum phase system using the state-space based relay feedback approach is proposed. This method is then utilized for the identification of the battery model parameters. Second order super twisting sliding mode observer is designed and the simulation results for validation of the proposed method is shown.
