摘要

Many countries and international organizations have been seeking a road for harmonizing development of society, economy, mankind, and natural resources, environment protection from 1950s. The UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 put forward the issue of sustainable development and opened new paths for international cooperation working towards development and environmental preserve and protection. Sustainable development is one complicated and systemic engineering which needs real-time and dynamic information. The developing space technology especially Spatial Information Systems which consists of RS, GIS, GPS and GMS provides a powerful support for sustainable development planning and decision making. Though the history of space exploring is very short, space technology has shown its incomparable superiority in solving global environmental problems. Applying space technology can obtain the dynamic information of regional resources, environment quality etc. Space technology also plays important role in decision making support, planning drawing, information storing, querying and analyzing etc. This paper developed one program for sustainable development planning and decision making basing on space technology and introduced a case study of space technology applications for regional sustainable development in Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province of China.
