In this paper a new waveguide (WG) to ridge gap waveguide (RGWG) transition is designed using probe excitation. In this case the waveguide is in the back of the ridge guide. Thus allows for flexible orientation of the waveguide with respect to the RGWG orientation. A WR28 waveguide is used to feed the ridge through an air coaxial line neck that has been altered to enhance the matching level. A bandwidth (BW) of 26 % at −10 dB is achieved using the new proposed transition covering a frequency range of 22. 5 GHz to 29 GHz, when connected to a radiating antenna. A comparative study between the performance of the coaxial probe excitation and the new proposed waveguide to RGGW is presented.
