The signals coming from industry are mixed with regards to why organizations decide to implement Green IS. Some organizations such as SAP and Hewlett-Packard fully embrace and promote Green IS while others do not due to the uncertainty of the start-up costs and benefits. Because of the seemingly disparate indicators a thorough investigation of the factors influencing the decision to implement is required. Drawing from Institutional, Status quo and Management fashion perspectives, we propose a conceptual model to identify the prominent enablers and inhibitors of Green IS implementation. Armed with this knowledge researchers will be better aligned to guide practitioners towards Green IS.
