The effect of intermittent re-calculation oftransition position is analysed using a low-orderVII platform coupled to an Orr-Sommerfeld-typestability analysis method. Transonic aerofoil andinfinite-swept wing flows were studied. Where thetransition mechanisms are weakly dependent onthe gross flow field characteristics, as few as tentransition updates may be required over a 1000-iteration CFD solution, if correctly timed.
