A widely held assumption in the study of ufology is that disclosure might one day come about through the release of undeniable photo or video evidence. There are now over 1 billion cell phone cameras in the world and perhaps as many personal camcorders. Subsequently, the majority of citizens living in industrialized nations have ready access to technology capable of documenting UFO activity. This global proliferation of media technology has created an expectation that perhaps someone might one day record incontrovertible proof; or at the very least, people will come to accept the UFO phenomenon as truth because of the sheer number of recorded sightings. Is this a valid presumption? What kind of influence does seeing video evidence ultimately have on a person's belief of that event or phenomenon? Because the use of media technology (cell phone cameras, Internet video websites, social media sharing, etc.) has increased at an exponential rate within a matter of just a few years, we should be asking questions related to how this influx impacts our study. Has society placed an unwarranted burden on media technology to witness in our behalf or is technology positively bringing about awareness of the UFO phenomenon? Should we be concerned about the vulnerability of media technology which can be manipulated or entirely hoaxed? Have media agencies (news agencies, documentaries, TV programs, etc.) deliberately deceived the public in the past and are they currently censoring or working in part of a larger plan to keep the entire truth from the public?
