In this paper a square solar sail model is developed based on the wing tip displacement attitude control method. The nonlinear system equations of motion are formulated, and the controllability of the solar sail is assessed based on linear approximation of the nonlinear equations. Analyses of the controllability of a given configuration space as well as a given reorientation path is performed. The solar sail is found to be controllable for both cases. The controllability of possible failure scenarios where one or more wing actuators fails to work is also discussed.
