The paper analyzes the effect of the operation efficiency and safety of late merge control at freeway on-ramps by AIMSUN. In the microscopic simulation, some rules include lane restriction, vehicle parameters, road parameters and so on, are adjusted so that it is in accordance with the real situation on the freeway. Through the simulation, the influence of late merge control is analyzed in different traffic volumes, different late merge length, and the reasonable length of late merge control is also determined. According to the result of simulation, late merge control has better effects than normal situations in heavy traffic and 200m~300m should be the optimal late merge length.
