Today's transport providers face a growing passenger demand for mobility, especially for air transport. This leads to an increasing congestion potential throughout the journey, especially in nodal points with high frequencies. Passengers experience this congestion primarily in connections to and from the airport and within the passenger handling processes at the airport. Air transport operation in an increasingly congested system as well as more passenger convenience along the entire journey can be addressed with approaches targeting smooth and seamless passenger transport. One solution is the integration of different transport modes in intermodal transport solutions. However, privacy protection issues when exchanging passenger data, a currently existing lack of cost effectiveness and a range of other factors complicate the cooperation of the different transport mode providers. In this paper, a quantitative analysis of several attempts to align different transport modes with the airport as nodal point is performed aiming at the identification of requirements as well as limitations of existing intermodal approaches. During previous work on the qualitative assessment of such approaches (Urban et al. 2014), a set of performance parameters was derived from stakeholder requirements. Based on this framework, additional studies have been conducted allowing to develop key performance indicators and to assign valid quantitative metrics to each indicator. The analysis is conducted based on publicly accessible data. A rating scheme is presented which allows benchmarking the intermodal approaches quantitatively. The analysis enables the identification of improvement potential considering intermodal approaches and highlights areas to expedite a successful integration of different transport modes.
